Byron Writers Fest will rock your world

Three more sleeps until the 2017 Byron Writers Festival. The sun’s shining, the forecast is good, the authors are arriving, the coffee is roasted, the workshops have begun. It’s an event I’m proud to be associated with as a board member. Though that means I don’t get to just sit and watch!

This year I’m interrogating a panel of broadcasters, producers and an agent on how books leap onto the screen (Books to Screen, Friday 4 August 1.45pm); weaving magic with author/magicians as we explore literacy for kids (Reaching for the Stars, Friday 4 August 4pm); venturing into deep space with science legend Robyn Williams of ABC’s longest running radio program The Science Show (Sat 5 August 4.15pm); and chewing the fat with prolific author, commentator and marathon queen Anita Heiss (Sunday 6 August 9am).

There’s still time to get a festival ticket! Hope to see you there. http://byronwritersfestival.com/festival-2017/

Off to Varuna!

vruna

Happy news has come in - I’ve been picked for a Litlink Fellowship at Varuna - that residential centre beloved by writers everywhere. The enduring legacy of Australian author Eleanor Dark and her son Mick Dark, the house hosts five writers at a time. Nurtured, fed and set free to write… I’ll be there for two weeks in September 2017. You can read more about who else is coming and how we were chosen here.

StoryBoard bus launched in Byron

Friday 28 April saw the launch of the StoryBoard bus - the magical vehicle taking authors and Storytellers to Northern Rivers Schools to deliver free workshops in creative writing. Jesse has been developing and leading this project since 2014. See the Byron Shire News story: https://www.byronnews.com.au/news/storyboard-bus-bringing-inspiration-to-the-regions/3173475/
